I wonder where the term X-mas comes from. I have never associated Christmas with the letter X.

  1. An "x" is a crossed letter. X-mas is therefore like Cross-mas (or Christmas), just like you sometimes see "Railroad X-ing" signs.

  2. Some Christians find it offensive because it "crosses out" Christ, but Wikipedia says: "The "X" in Xmas is from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of Χριστός, Christ in Greek"
