I think technically your brain doesn't stop really slow growing until you're about 30, but after puberty it is

  1. New imaging technology, i.e. MRIs and CAT scans show that the human brain isn't fully developed until about the mid 20s. The last parts to develop are the parts of the brain that handle reasoning and analytical thinking. Until that time, teens and very young adults are using other parts of the brain, primarily the emotion parts of the brain, to make decisions.

Thus when you say to your teenager, "What were you thinking!?" and they reply, "I don't know," they really don't know.
