I wonder if it is true that lighting doesn't usually strike in the same place twice unless there is a lightning rod

  1. Lightning is a random discharge of static electricity in the air. When the charge builds up enough it will find the fastest point to the ground. take into account that the air and clouds that the charge is building in is always moving and the odds of it hitting the same place twice are pretty high.
