what is the difference between a metric ton and a regular ton?

    1 metric ton = 1.10231131 short tons

    In the US we use "short tons" apparently. The UK uses a "long ton." A short ton is 2,000 pounds, a metric ton is 2,204 pounds, and a long ton is 2,240 pounds. So the British are closer :P
